Richard Mauzy, 63, passed away November 28, 2013, with family and friends by his side in Mesa, Arizona. Richard was born on June 28, 1950 to Byron Mauzy and Helene Vallier in El Paso, Texas. The second of four children, he was raised in a home full of love and respect where his passion for learning and creativity could flourish. In 1968 he graduated from Tempe High School, where he participated in track and field - cross country, and the debate team. He attended college at Arizona State University where he received a Master's degree in Political Science in 1974.He was twice selected as a fellow of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, and moved to Virginia in 1973 where he worked in our nation's capital. Richard married in January, 1973. He had two sons and two daughters, and he served diligently as a father and provider to many step-sons and step-daughters throughout his entire life. He loved all of his children dearly. His trademark characteristics as a father were his generosity, intelligence, love of laughter, and an easy-going nature. He greatly enjoyed being a Grandpa, and was known as "BooPa" to 15 grandchildren and many children who were close to him. On two separate occasions, Richard worked for the Arizona Attorney General's office where he worked as an investigator. Very much an entrepreneur, he owned and operated Probe Investigations for 15 years where he enjoyed much success as a private investigator and business owner. His interests include learning, reading and literature, politics and government, history, music, film, and spending time with his family and loved ones. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities there throughout his adult life. Richard is survived by his brother, Jim Mauzy; sister, Cynthia Turnage; sister, Erin Mauzy; 10 children / step-children and their spouses: Nathan & Shelly Mauzy, Sarah Davis, Calvin & Sanya Fenn, Jordan & Tamra Mauzy, Jack & Katie Davis, Mark & Allison Wilmot, Jeremy & Emily Weber, Adam & Tiffany Davis, James & Michelle Davis, Ryan Davis; and 15 grandchildren. Services will be held Saturday, December 7, 2013 in the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints chapel 1852 North Stapley Drive Mesa, AZ at 10:00 am with a visitation one hour prior, 9:00 am. Interment will proceed after services at the City of Mesa Cemetery 1212 North Center Street Mesa, AZ
