Carol Elaine (Parkin) O'Very

August 14, 1927 ~ February 23, 2018 (age 90)

Carol Elaine Parkin O’Very passed away on February 23rd at the age of 90. She was a beautiful and loving person who will be dearly missed by all. Born in Woods Cross, UT on August 14, 1927 to Laurence B. Parkin and Alpha J. Sand. She graduated Granite high school and attended the University of Utah.

At the age of 19 she was secretary to the editor of the Deseret News. She worked at KDYL Radio at the end of WWII (1945) and married Harold J. O’Very in 1947 whom she met while working as a secretary at War Assets. They later divorced.

Carol was an amazing woman and wonderful mother who raised five children on her own. She worked briefly as a realtor and then used her many skills working at Mountain Fuel/Questar for 25 years — first as a secretary, then a data processor and a software instructor to staff members when computers were first introduced to the company, and later a dispatch operator. She loved to dance and sew clothes for herself and her young children. She enjoyed playing golf and won trophies playing doubles tennis. During her retirement years she played weekly games of Pinochle with friends and Scrabble with family.

She is survived by her children: Paula O’Very-Saylor (Jim), Barry O’Very (Elaina), Hal O’Very, Laura O’Very, Traci O’Very Covey (Mikel). Grandchildren: Brighton Loveday (Tim), Dustin Smith, Branden O’Very (Cassandra), Brigitte Christiansen (Steve), Danielle O’Very Smania (Robert), Dallas O’Very (Alice), Shanna Pearson (Eddie), Angela Peck (Bam), Amie Gaines, Alex Gaines, and 18 great-grandchildren.

She loved having a houseful of kids and many of her children’s friends considered her their “other mother.” Her love of family and kind generous heart was a blessing. She was loved by all who knew her.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Sugarhouse Garden Center, 1602 East 2100 South, on June 3, 2018 at 3:00 PM. Please join us in honoring her.
