Joan Zora Winningham, passed away on Friday, July 13, 2018 at the home of her daughter, Darcie Peterson in Logan Utah. She is now fully at rest because of the eternal hope gained for her through her faith in Christ who loved her and gave himself for her. Because of Jesus’ sacrifice, not because of her good works, God acquitted her of all her sins and reckoned her righteous in his sight.
Joan was born on December 21, 1935 in Longview, WA – the first baby born at the new hospital. Her parents (Everett and Vera Skeans) had a dairy farm in Rainier, Oregon. To Joan, selflessly taking care of her family and friends was what she simple did. She joyfully served Christ with her life. She enjoyed her opportunities to play the piano for church, teach elementary and Sunday school, volunteer, and be a true friend to many. Joan had an infectious laugh, loved playing card games, making quilts, crocheting, and gardening. According to Joan’s daughters, she was “the BEST mom in the world.” Joan’s motto was that everyone needed at least 5 hugs a day. Throughout her life, Joan lit up at the thought of ice-cream, her favorite childhood treat.
Joan was preceded in death by her daughter Marji MacWilliams. She is survived by her husband, Darrel Winningham, her daughters, Darcie Peterson (Eldon), Patti Brooks (Ellis), grandchildren, Hope Terwilliger, Rose Ogihara (Derek), Megan Tolentino (Aser), Kelsie Peterson, Nathan Peterson and great grandchildren, Alexis, Olivia, James, Conner, and Lily.
Memorial Services will be held at Cache Valley Bible Fellowship (1488 N 200 W, Logan) on Saturday, August 18 at 1 p.m. and at Hudson Park, Rainier, Oregon, on Saturday September 29. In lieu of flowers or gifts please give donations to The Center for Pregnancy Choices (http://www.centerforpregnancychoices.com/).
Special thanks to all at Access Hospice who cared graciously for Joan in her last days.
