Maranda Cluff Burkey

Maranda Cluff Burkey passed away on July 19, 2021 after a long battle with ovarian cancer. Mandi was born on March 31, 1962, in Brigham City, Utah to Anthony Thomas Cluff and Verabel Call Cluff (deceased). She was the oldest of five children.

Growing up, she lived in Logan, Salt Lake City, and Alexandria and Arlington Virginia. She graduated from Washington and Lee High School in Arlington. She attended Utah State University and Brigham Young University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. Her first teaching job was in Lancaster, California, where she lived for 32 years. She married Barry Wayne Burkey from Lancaster in December 1990. They have three children, Rachel, Justin and Daniel.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a full-time mission to the Des Moines Iowa Mission. Mandi was naturally skilled in helping the underprivileged and those who needed special attention in school and life. She was a valiant advocate for all of her children, especially her son Daniel. She had a passion for working with special needs children. She cheered for and helped the underdog. Mandi always saw the best in everyone she met and befriended so many people. She was genuine, kind, and loved and admired by many friends and family members.

Her greatest passion was her family. She was a devoted wife and mother and her favorite times were spent with her children and extended family.  She always had a meal on the table for her family, gave great advice and listened to their problems. She loved the beach and boating, playing games with her family, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Barry’s piano playing, rock concerts and family reunions.

She is survived by her husband Barry, three children Rachel Franke (Brayden), Justin and Daniel, sister Belle Rhees and brothers Max Cluff and Hans Cluff, and her father Tony Cluff. Her mother Belle and brother Matthew preceded her in death.

The family appreciates the excellent care she received from her nurses, doctors, Huntsman Cancer Center, and especially her home care nurse Ashley.
