Bruce Albert Callahan

Bruce Albert Callahan (81), a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the family he loved so dearly.

Bruce was born on November 24, 1944, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Marlow and Eva (Meyerhoffer) Callahan. After graduating from Granite High School he served in the National Guard and then served an LDS mission in the Central States Mission. He worked over 50 years at the family business, Callahan Tile.

Bruce married his high school sweetheart, Lois Mascherino, on November 4, 1966. Their marriage was filled with love, laughter, family, faith, and countless memories. They were looking forward to celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary together next month. Bruce and Lois built a beautiful life centered around their six children and their love for one another.

Bruce faced many health challenges throughout his life, but he never allowed them to take away his love for life, his sense of humor, or his desire to be with the people he loved. In his later years, he battled Parkinson's disease, Crohn's disease, and arthritis. Even as these illnesses made life increasingly difficult, Bruce continued to find reasons to smile, joke, and spend time with his family. Lois rarely left his side, always there to help and love him. Their strength and determination are an inspiration to those around them.

Bruce loved sports, especially basketball and baseball. He played for as long as his body would allow, and his competitive spirit never really left him. He was always ready for a game, a challenge, or an opportunity to cheer someone on. He also loved wrestling with his children and grandchildren. Even as the years went by, Bruce would still challenge them to a wrestling match whenever he could. His family will always remember his laughter, the way only he could cheer for BYU football, and the fun he brought to those moments.

Bruce was known for his big smile, his quick wit, and his funny stories. He had a wonderful ability to make people laugh, and there was rarely a gathering where he didn't have a story to tell or a joke to share. His presence could brighten a room, and his family and friends will deeply miss hearing his laughter and seeing that familiar smile.

Bruce had a gift for making people feel welcome and loved. He never met a stranger. Wherever he went, he would strike up a conversation, often leaving that person smiling and feeling like they had known him for years.

Above all, Bruce loved his family and loved serving others. He had a deep and abiding love for his Savior, Jesus Christ, and a strong testimony of the gospel. His faith was not simply something he spoke about—it was something he lived. He cherished every opportunity he had to serve in the Church and to help others.

Throughout his life, Bruce served faithfully in many callings, including as a Bishop, High Councilor, Young Men's leader, and a Primary Sunbeam teacher. For over ten years he and Lois loved serving in the baptistry at the Jordan River Temple. No calling was too big or too small for him, because he understood that serving others was one of the greatest ways to follow the Savior. He loved the people he served and found genuine joy in helping, teaching, encouraging, and lifting others.

Bruce leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, laughter, kindness, and love. His family will carry with them the lessons he taught through the way he lived: to love the Savior, serve others, cherish family, tell a good story, laugh often, and never be afraid to talk to a stranger.

Bruce’s life is a true testament of enduring to the end. Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing that he has returned honorably to his Father in Heaven where he was met with open arms and gratitude for the life he lived.

Bruce is survived by his wife Lois, their six children: Cindy (Chad), Cory, Kari (James), Robyn (Steve), Brett (Giselle), and Cassie, 16 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

A viewing will be held on Sunday October 4, 2026 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 8825 S. 3200 W. West Jordan. Funeral services will be held on Monday October 5, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the same location, with a viewing that morning from 9:45 to 10:45 am.

The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the many doctors, nurses, caregivers, and medical professionals who cared for Bruce throughout his life.
