Val Ira Singleton

October 11, 1931, to September 4, 2026Val Ira Singleton passed away peacefully on September 4, 2026, in Murray, Utah, at the age of 94. Val celebrated every moment of every day. Those who knew him will remember him as a man of quiet wisdom, gentle strength, unwavering optimism, and unmatched wit. His kind and positive nature touched everyone he met and undoubtedly contributed to a long life well lived. He believed that life’s greatest treasures were often found in its simplest moments, whether admiring the beauty around him, sharing a conversation with a friend, making others smile, or spending treasured time with his family. Music was woven deeply into Val’s life from the very beginning. 

His parents and relatives were musicians who earned a living playing gigs during the Great Depression as part of a family band, performing in venues that included historic 25th Street in Ogden. Music was truly in the family blood, and Val carried that legacy throughout his own life. A passionate musician himself, he majored in music and earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah. Val had a deep appreciation for travel and embraced opportunities to experience new places and cultures. He was endlessly curious and possessed a lifelong love of learning. His personal library reflected his inquisitive spirit, with shelves filled with books he had thoughtfully read cover to cover. Val proudly served his country in the United States Army where he played in the band. He also built a long and dedicated career in the paper supply industry, where he worked for more than 50 years before fully retiring at the age of 80. Whatever role he held, he approached it with dedication, integrity, and a willingness to learn. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara, to whom he was married for 54 years, and his son, Greg. Val is survived by his two children, Bryan Singleton (Tristin), and Amy Gilbert (Peter), along with 9 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. 

He also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish his kindness, wisdom, humor, and steady presence. A Celebration of Life will be held at Val’s last residence, the home of Bryan and Tristin Singleton, located in Murray, Utah. Family and friends are invited to gather to share smiles and a few kind words in honor of Val’s life. Although Val’s accomplishments were many, those closest to him will remember him most for the way he lived. He found joy in learning, beauty in everyday moments, humor in the ordinary, and fulfillment in the company of those he loved. His quiet example of kindness, humility, curiosity, grace, and wit will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
