Afton Vandenberg

Afton Black Vandenberg, our wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully September 15, 2016, at her home in Layton, Utah. She was born in Eureka, Utah, on August 8, 1920. She grew up in Magna, Utah, with her parents and six siblings.

Family was very important to her. She would do anything for her children: Johnny Val, Annette, Wayne, Karol, and Vandy. She had numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As she became less able to get around her greatest joy was watching Great-Grandchild Kai climb into her lap and kiss her.

Mom believed in hard work. She was a taxi driver during World War II before moving to California where she worked for Hughes Aircraft Co. She retired and moved to Utah with her daughters. She enjoyed going out to breakfast and had a standing lunch date with friends. She was known for driving fast, loving orange, and watching “Wheel of Fortune.” Afton is already missed.

A special thanks to Ginger Gonzales and hospice for special care. Services will be held in Hidden Hollow Ward, 1954 Antelope Drive, Layton, Utah. Visiting at 11:00, Funeral services at 12:00 noon.
