Alvie Carter peacefully passed away September 8, 2024 at his home, where he was the most comfortable.
Alvie worked and retired from Kennecott Copper mine. He was also self-employed doing property management. He started a business in 2002 with his son Chris named Poplar Street Pub, which is currently still operating. He did everything from building to demolition. He was one of the hardest workers his son ever met. He loved working on his backhoe tearing buildings down and recycling the materials and old bricks. A great memory is seeing him out in his hard hat and mask seven days a week.
Alvie was a kind, honest and hardworking man. People admired his determination. He always finished whatever he started. He loved sitting at the coffee shop, having breakfast, talking business and telling stories. Starting a business together, Chris and his dad spent many mornings at breakfast planning out Poplar Street Pub.
Alvie ran track at South High School. Some of his medals were displayed for many years later. He was an amazing artist. He met his wife in an art class. He loved to sing and appeared in many plays. He would often go to the City and County Building for permits and would sing to them. They always gave Al permits after hearing his voice.
His wife Colleen meant the world to Alvie. He always did whatever he could to make her happy. They ran an antique shop and fish shop together for many years so Chris grew up around saltwater fish and antiques.
Alvie is survived by his son Chris and his grandchildren Paige, Pyper and Brooklyn Carter. He is preceded in death by his wife, Colleen Carter.
Alvie will be laid to rest at the Mt Olivet Cemetery, Salt Lake City, Utah on September 18, 2024 at 10:00 a.m.
