Alwine Hopkins

Alwine Hopkins 5/27/1931 - 2/19/2007.
Alwine Hopkins our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away Monday, February 19, 2007 peacefully in her sleep in Orem, Utah. She was born May 27, 1931, to Theodore and Lydia Semrau.
She grew up in Germany and loved her childhood living on a large farm. She had a love for animals and enjoyed taking care of them. Her enjoyable childhood came to an abrupt end with the break out of World War II. Throughout the war, Alwine endured many unspeakable hardships and trials, and often told her family that if not for prayer and a never-give-up-attitude, she never would have survived the war. In 1955, she decided to immigrate to the United States of America to seek a new life and settled in Northern California. In 1957 she married Robert H. Hopkins. They had two children, and they thoroughly enjoyed their family life while residing in Mountain View, California. In 1976, they moved to Provo, Utah. Prior to her husband's death, they spent their time between their home in Provo, and a second home in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Her life was spent in devotion to her family. Alwine was always very energetic and demonstrated a strong work ethic. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, boating, and camping. One of her favorite places to vacation was Lake Powell, as she loved the warm water and great waterskiing. Alwine was a convert to the LDS church. She was a woman of faith and an inspiration to her family. She loved serving in the nursery in her church's organization. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be dearly missed by those she left behind.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and one brother. She is survived by her daughter, Deanna Hopkins Bell, her son, Charles (Rachelle) Hopkins, and five grandchildren. She is the oldest of seven children and is also survived by two sisters in California, a brother in Michigan, and a brother and sister in Germany.
Funeral services will be held 1:00pm on Saturday, February 24, 2007 at the Orem Park Chapel located at 114 South, 400 West, Orem, Utah. Family and friends may call one hour prior to services. Interment at Orem City Cemetery.
