Arlin Tracy Barnes

Arlin Tracy Barnes passed peacefully through the veil to a great reunion with family and friends Tuesday morning. He was born 16 October 1927 in Wilson Lane, Utah, the first of 9 children born to Alfred Emory and Dorothy Virginia Tracy Barnes.

He married Barbara LeVene Jennings on 14 June 1947 in the Logan, Utah LDS temple.  They had two beautiful children and later divorced.  He then married Wilma Slaughter on 30 March 1962 in Sunset, Utah. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS temple on 30 March 1966. This marriage was also blessed by 2 children.

Tracy had a great curiosity about how the world worked, was very bright, and always learning. He earned a degree in physical chemistry, which he used in a job at Thiocol, and later teaching nursing students at Weber State College. His curiosity and natural ability to quickly master almost anything he set his mind to led him to other jobs, such as door-to-door sales, carpentry, city management, and building inspection.

While the war prevented Tracy from being able to serve a full-time mission in his youth, he spent many years serving in LDS stake missions, and was able to serve two full-time family history missions, and in the church Employment Center with his sweetheart later in life. He had a firm and unwavering testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and never turned down an opportunity to serve. His own family, and those of many others, have been profoundly blessed by his family history work, as he was responsible for recording and submitting over 10,000 names for temple work, and was able to document his Tracy line back to 1040.

Tracy leaves behind one brother: Edward T. Barnes, his wife: Wilma Slaughter Barnes, four children: Kent Jennings Barnes (fiancée Dee Thorell), Karen Barnes (Ronald) McFarland, Scott Richard (Deborah) Barnes, and Marléna Barnes (Stephen) Porter; thirteen grandchildren, and an ever-growing number of great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Ruth, Lou Jean, Glenn Eldon, Vern, Dorothy Ann, Byron and Austin.

Services will be held Friday, 30 June 2017 at the LDS chapel at 1589 East Gentile in Layton at 11:00. A viewing will be held in the Relief Society room at 1589 East Gentile Thursday evening, 29 June, from 6-8 p.m., and again Friday from 10-10:45 a.m. Interment will take place in the Ogden City Cemetery.

The family wishes to give special thanks to the nurses and staff at Davis Hospital, Thatcher Brook Rehabilitation and Care, Rocky Mountain Care, and Rocky Mountain Hospice, especially Sarah from hospice who went above and beyond. A huge thank you, also, to all the family, friends, and neighbors who were there to lend a helping hand whenever one was needed!
