Barbara Jane Nelson

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Barbara Jane Nelson, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 19, 2014. Cancer did not defeat her since she is now in the presence of Jesus. Barbara was born in October 1930 in Ontario, California to John Byron and Hazel Young Campbell. Growing up with two brothers, John Robert and Gary Richard, she loved to play softball with them and later was on the tennis team at Chaffey High and also at College of the Pacific (now UOP) in Stockton, California. She majored in elementary education. She met and fell in love with Harlan Walker Nelson while at college and they married on June 28, 1952 following her graduation. They had two children, James Reid Nelson and Deborah Sue Hart. The family enjoyed camping in the Sierras where they fished and hiked. Mom loved cooking and entertaining. She also enjoyed her many years of teaching in both public and private schools. She was a gifted and beloved teacher. She treasured her friendships. In 1991, Barbara and Harlan, with her mother, Hazel, moved to Utah where Jim was living with his family. Deborah and her family followed ten years later. In addition to Jim and Deborah, she is survived by her five grandchildren: Evan, Tyler and Griffin Nelson; and Johanna and Caleb Hart. A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 27, at 1:00 at New Life Fellowship, 2045 N 800 E in North Logan, Utah. A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 4, at 1:00 at Bellevue Memorial Park, 1240 West G Street, Ontario, California.
