Barbara Owen

REDMOND - On June 10, 2017 Barbara Owen went "home to be with Jesus" . Her struggle, now ended, was fought with faith, humor and grace; her final journey, peaceful and quiet.

Barbara was born in Heth, Arkansas, June 17, 1942 to David and Virginia Haley. She had five brothers and one sister.

She graduated from South Mountain High School in Phoenix, AZ with the class of 1958 and attended Arizona State University in 1959 and 1960.

She married the love of her life, Pete Owen, June 23, 1961. They remained happily married and more in love the day that she passed than the day "her cowboy came to town".

Barbara held many different types of employment. Most notably, as rodeo secretary for Southwest Championship Rodeo Productions along side husband, Pete Owen. Their rodeo company put on the 4th of July rodeo in Salina and the August rodeo in Richfield for several years. After moving to Utah, she began her career in Real Estate. She owned and operated Encore Realty in Salina for over 30 years. She held too many titles to list, however she served a key role in establishing the Central Utah Board of Realtors. She was relentless in her fight for the people of Central Utah when finding the right home or property for clients as well as representing them in state and local government. In 1994 she was awarded "Realtor of the Year" for the entire state of Utah.

Barbara was also key in laying the foundation to the Baptist Church in Salina, Utah. The church actually began in her living room in Redmond, later moved to the Salina Legion Hall, and finally a new building was constructed where a christian school was established and church services continue to be held to this day.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Pete Owen; sons, Glen Owen, Redmond, Wesley Owen, Richfield; daughters, Dani Owen, Redmond and Haley Owen Hooper, Aurora, her grandchildren, great grandchildren; her brother, Robert Haley, Grants Pass, OR and her Aunt, Willy Lou Inmann, Richfield.

She was preceded in death by her son, James Kelly Owen; her parents, four brothers and one sister.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the Home Health and Hospice team of Richfield; along with extended family members, Maxine Monroe, Shelly Peterson, and Jenean Hampton for the genuine compassion, kindness, and heartfelt love shown while helping care for Barb in her last days.

Services will be held Friday, June 30, at 10: 00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 501 North Main, Richfield. There will be a gathering for friends and family following services at the Salina Park. We welcome everyone to join us for memories, music and a meal.

“Carry me home to South Mountain, let all who are near gather ‘round

Speak of me well in the stories you tell

Then set my bones free

To ride on the winds of a wild desert storm”
