Barbara Sue Eding Hoover Smith ~ Grammy Barbara Smith, "Grammy" 73, earned her angel wings on April 4, 2015 at her home in Salt Lake City, Utah following a short illness. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends who Grammy had touched in many ways throughout her memorable life. Grammy was beloved by all who knew her and her loss is deeply felt. Born May 1, 1941 in Toledo, Ohio to Burel G. and Hildegarde (Randolph) Eding. She was the youngest of 8 children. She attended schools in Toledo, Ohio and graduated from Scott High School. She worked for many years in student transportation for Salt Lake City School District and as a Customer Service Representative at various businesses in Salt Lake City. Barbara married Foster Thomas Hoover on October 14, 1961 in Michigan, they later divorced. She married Lindsey Smith April 1, 1976 and later divorced. Barbara was a compassionate and loving person. She accepted all people regardless of their status in life, background, or ability and she counted many special friends as her family. She especially loved children and made sure the ones she cared for knew she was there for them cheering their successes and supporting them through difficult times always. Having sleepovers, parties and lemonade stands at Grammy's house were the best times for her great grandchildren. She was a positive influence and an important part of their lives from the start. Grammy loved music, parties, fun, precocious children and mischief. Barbara is survived by three sisters, Janice Ash (Don); June Eding; and Patricia Heider; and two brothers, Phillip Eding (Mary Jane) and Duke Eding (Debbie);all of Ohio. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John (Jack) Eding and Lee Eding. She is the mother of five children, Julie Gerber (Doug) of West Valley City, Utah; Jack Hoover (Ronda) of Eugene, Oregon; Pam Knowles (Lloyd) of Springville, Utah; Heidi Hoover (Angie) of Aurora, Colorado, and LeRoy Smith (Shay) of Kearns, Utah; many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family would like to thank Superior Home Care and Hospice for their tender care of our mom. Celebration of her life will be held at Hunter 11th Ward, 5065 West Janette Ave. (3965 S.)
