Charles Alan Child

Charles Alan Child (79), our beloved father, husband, grandfather, brother, and friend returned home to his Heavenly Father, peacefully surrounded by his family, on January 18, 2024. Charles was born on October 22, 1944 in Ogden, Utah to Howard Revella and Eloise Bond Child. He is the second of five children.

Charles was born with a club foot and spent many months receiving care at the Shriner’s Hospital in Los Angeles, California. He always spoke of the appreciation for the care that he received.

Charles graduated from Davis High School in 1962 in Kaysville, Utah. He continued his education by attending Weber State University for 2 years studying diesel mechanics. He served a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints in the Northern Indian Mission. He was a faithful member throughout his life, serving in the Boy Scouts, as the Ward Mission Leader, a Counselor in the Bishopric, and many other callings. His hobbies were fixing cars and lawnmowers. He had his own small business called Charlie’s Small Engine Repair as well as a lawnmowing business Charlie’s Cut and Trim. One of his favorite things he loved to do and always made sure everyone participated was singing Karaoke.

He married his wife Ann Heitz Child on September 10, 1969 in the Logan, Utah Temple. They raised a beautiful family of five children in the North Salt Lake, Utah area. His entire life was dedicated to serving others.

Charles was a remarkable son of our Heavenly Father. He was a friend to everyone. He loved to serve others especially those in his ward. He supported his family by working as a diesel mechanic and was a heavy equipment operator for a construction company. He loved to take his children for rides in the backhoe.

He is survived by his siblings, Lynn Child, Howard (Vickie) Child, and his children Staci (Andy) Hall, Jason (Kristy) Child, Heather (Monte) Poll, Jerlyn Cattaneo, Wade (Camille) Child, and 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Ann of 52 years, his parents, Howard and Eloise Child, and siblings, Leonard Child, and Sue Nielsen.

Charles’s family would like to express their love and appreciation for all the love and support they have received through this difficult time. His children would like to thank Chancellor Gardens Assisted Living and Atlas Home Health & Hospice for the great care and compassion that he received in his final 16 months.
