Christy Brown

Our sister Christy Anne Haacke Brown was united with her parents and many loved family members in heaven on February 28, 2023.

Christy was born June 25, 1953 to Joyce Nelson and Cornell B. Haacke in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her childhood was spent in Bountiful, Utah, playing with Barbies, riding bikes, twirling batons and hanging out with her cousins. She loved music and spent hours singing and dancing to her LPs by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and all the great rock bands of the 60’s and 70’s. Christy was blessed with many creative talents, she drew beautiful pictures of animals, especially horses and butterflies. As an artist she enjoyed coloring and created many beautiful pictures throughout her life.

She was an excellent student, had beautiful handwriting and a wonderful memory, especially for dates. If she didn’t know something, she would research it and send links to her siblings. She loved to read romance novels and biographies and introduced her sisters to great books such as The Hobbit and The Outsiders. As a younger sibling it was difficult to follow in her shoes, as teachers would expect us to be like her. She was the first to get a two wheel bike, own a car, get a job, you could say she blazed the path for her 11 siblings.

She loved, loved, loved jewelry and rings and designed beaded necklaces and bracelets. Blessed with a unique fashion style, she loved buying clothes, which her younger sisters would borrow without permission and then sneak back into her closet. We all remember and coveted her purple hot pants and white go-go boots.

Christy loved animals and had a menagerie of pets over the years, including cats and dogs, chickens, turkeys and a snake. She loved all animals, even the deer and raccoons that visited her yard and ate her cat food.

Her interests were many, with a fascination with anything to do with fantasy, dragons, wizards, and magic, and of course, the color purple.

Her heartbroken family left behind include 6 sisters and 5 brothers, Gayla (Steve) Quilter, Joni (Lee) Willis, Jana (Tim) Lawson, Shauna Dalton, Jay (Tammy) Haacke, Julie (Ricky) Long, Joel Haacke, Kelly (Andrea) Haacke, Jamie Haacke (Mike), Tracy Haacke, and Stephanie Haacke as well as 20 nieces and nephews and 34 grand nieces and nephews. Family members who are with her in heaven include her loving parents Cornell and Joyce Haacke, brother-in-laws Steve Quilter, Ricky Long, a nephew Kyle Willis, and a grandnephew Kyler Savage.

Christy married James Brown in 1980, and later divorced. She has spent the last 28 years with her love, Darrell Veenendaal and his daughter Britnee.

Christy is remembered for loving her family unconditionally and was always happy to see and hug every one of them.

At her request there will be no viewing or memorial service, a private celebration of her life will be held, by invitation, at a later date.

Christy, give mom and dad a huge hug from all of us and know you will be missed.
