Craig Theon Jepson

Craig Theon Jepson passed away from an aggressive form of metastatic renal cell carcinoma on Tuesday, June 3rd. He was 76 years young, he was born in Cedar City, UT, and died in Layton, UT.

He leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Delores Jepson, daughters Melinda, Rachelle, and Tiffany; siblings Carol, Michael, Marty, Dorothy, Mary, Jim, and Steve; grandson Aaron, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his family, he leaves a legacy of people he helped and supported through the years. He was a big brother and a father figure to many people throughout his life.

Craig was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and his brother Tom.

Craig was a High Priest in the LDS Church. He held many church leadership positions, including serving in 3 Bishoprics and on the High Council. He also served 2 senior missions with his wife, in the Milwaukee Wisconsin Mission and the Layton Utah Mission.

Craig earned his bachelor’s degree from BYU in Provo, UT, and his MBA from St. Mary’s College in Moraga, CA.

He spent his early years in the Army in communications. He achieved the rank of Captain in the U.S. Army. He served in Korea during the Vietnam War. After his time in the Army, Craig worked in the technology and communications industry, including work with Sandia National Laboratories and Lawrence Livermore Labs.

He was admired by many for his strong leadership in his family, the church, military, community and his work. He was a fixer, problem solver, and someone who brought people together. He had a gift for putting people at ease and meeting them where they were. 

His hobbies included cooking, especially grilling or smoking meat, gardening, HAM radio, and building models. He loved spending time with his family and watching his grandson skate and grow.

Services will be held at the LDS Church at 590 W. 2000 N., Layton, UT 84041. There will be a viewing on Tuesday, June 10th, from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. A second viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11th. The chapel service will begin at 11:30 a.m.
