David House Eccles

David House Eccles, beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather,passed away February 9, 2007 in Sandy, Utah. He was born May 15, 1917 in Baker, Oregon to David Richmond Eccles and Myrtle Grace House. He married Jeanne Rosemary Averill in 1940. They are the parents of three children.
Dave joined the Naval Reserve in 1939. He was drafted in 1945 while working for the Southern Pacific Railroad, was sworn into the U.S. Navy, and was discharged on December 20, 1945. For most of the rest of his working life he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service.
Dave, Jeanne and their children lived in Southern California until 1985 when he and his wife retired to Morro Bay, California. He was a Cub Master, Scoutmaster, and Area Commissioner while his sons were in scouting and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In Morro Bay he sang with the Gold Coast Barbershop Chorus and belonged to the Retired Federal Employees Association. He and Jeanne enjoyed traveling the world and were avid bird watchers.
In 2004 Dave and Jeanne moved to Sandy, Utah to be closer to family. They made many new friends among the residents and staff at Atria.
David is survived by his wife Jeanne, three children, David (Janice)Eccles of North Salt Lake, Utah, Judith (Richard) Wight of South Jordan, Utah, and Stephen (Daryl) Eccles of Plano, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; a sister Beth Keeley; and other extended family members. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Charles, sister Lelah Brooks, and grandson Jeremy Eccles.
The family would like to thank the residents and staff of Atria who befriended our parents in their new home, Dad's doctors who gave him such good and nurturing care, and the IHC Hospice care team.
A memorial service will be held at 11:15 am Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007 in the multipurpose room at Atria, 10970 S. 700 E. Sandy, Utah.
