David Smith Hufstetler passed away Thursday, January 22, 2026 from complications of epilepsy. He was born on January 1, 1971 in Ogden, Utah, to Keith Hayes Hufstetler and Vickie Smith Hufstetler.
He lived most of his childhood in Syracuse, Utah, but also lived in Farmington and Kaysville. He played football for Davis High school, and was very good at it. He also lived in Japan while his dad was working for Hill Air Force for 2 years. While there he played soccer, but his sports career was sidelined when he injured his knee. He enjoyed fishing with family and friends, as well as hunting, and spent many years enjoying the deer hunt with his family. He was very crafty and enjoyed sewing and crafting, and could look at something and figure out how to make it.
He worked at Utility Trailer, and several furniture stores making and repairing furniture. His last few years were spent working at construction when he could work. His epilepsy kept him from working very much because of the liability his seizures caused. But he was a good worker, and really hated not being able to hold down a job for long. He helped several in the family build their homes. He was a jack of all trades, being able to do electrical, plumbing, and finish work as well as other skills. His greatest accomplishment was having his daughter, Haylie. He was a wonderful father.
He had a big heart, and loved helping people. He loved elderly people and enjoyed helping them however he could. He was a good friend and had many friends. He loved his family so much. In his dad’s last year, he helped so much and because of him, his dad was able to stay home and not have to go into a nursing facility.
He is survived by his daughter Haylie Rose Hufstetler, and his significant other Crystal Zamora, as well as Haylie’s half brothers Fonzie (Lindsey) Zamora and Jose Zamora. He is also survived by his step-mother Linda Cutler Hufstetler, and siblings Lauri Downey, Julie (Jim) Knott, Mikel (Christine) Hufstetler, Becki (Jon) Pritt, Daniel (Alesha) Hufstetler, and Benjamin (Lisa) Hufstetler. He is also survived by his step-siblings Jolyn (Corky) Brown, Melora (Gary) Bracken, Damon (Carla) Passey and Tyler (Katrina) Passey. He also had many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Father Keith, and his Mother Vickie, as well as his grandparents Robert and Phyllis Hufstetler and Robert and Larean Smith.
There will be a celebration of his life January 31, at 11:00 a.m. at the church behind his house at 845 North 1150 East in Layton.
