Dennis Lee Wimmer

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and friend, Dennis Wimmer, who passed away at the age of 79 due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 54 years, Ann Brady, and their five children, Matt Wimmer, Jenifer Wimmer-Devries, Annette Wimmer-Evans, Eric Wimmer and Bryant Wimmer, as well as 18 grandchildren.

Dennis spent his childhood in Rexburg, ID, Bremerton, WA, and Ogden, UT. He learned how to swim at an early age and loved to compete throughout his teens at Ben Lomond High School in Ogden, UT (graduating class of 1962). His swim team took State his senior year. He continued swimming throughout his life and loved hiking and other outdoor activities. 

He was a man of faith and a proud member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Dennis served as Seminary President in high school, faithfully served an LDS mission in Eastern States Mission, participating in the Hill Cumorah Pageant during his two-year mission. Throughout his life, he loved serving his fellow church members and neighbors, and held numerous church callings. He loved his scriptures and loved to talk about his favorite verses. 

Following his missionary service, Dennis married Ann Brady in the Salt Lake Temple on January 24th, 1969, entering the United States Air Force shortly thereafter.  Ann loyally supported him as he was stationed at various Air Force bases stateside, and during his tour in Vietnam.  Dennis served his country with honor, passing on his deep patriotism to his children. During his time in the Air Force, Dennis served his time as a welder and enjoyed using the skills he learned throughout his life on projects for friends and family. He was also very talented with woodworking and crafted many pieces of furniture. 

Early in his life and marriage, he carried on his father’s business as a distributor for Harper Brooms and was nicknamed “the broom man” by his loyal customers. Over his 50+ years in business, he enjoyed the relationships he developed with his clients, referring to many of them as “my good friends”.  His hard work and enthusiasm throughout his life and career was passed on to his children and grandchildren.

His family will miss him, but will fondly remember a life well-lived, looking forward with great anticipation to reuniting with him in the next.

His passing is preceded by his parents Acel Don and Mardell and his sister Connie.

Funeral services will be held on March 13 at the South Ogden 7th Ward located at 720 Nancy Drive, South Ogden. A viewing will be from 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. followed by a program at 11:15 a.m.

The family extends their gratitude for the healthcare workers at Intermountain Homecare & Hospice for the care that Dennis received. Thank you!
