Listen to Obituary

Dian Nelson Leth passed peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of February 9th, 2026 in Orem, Utah. Dian was born October 7th, 1933 in Brigham City, Utah to Charles Austin Nelson and Leola Christenson. She was the 3rd of 4children, her siblings being Joel Kay, Donna Rae, and Juanita.

When Dian was a young child, her family moved to California. During World War II, her father was in Hawaii as a contractor and was on Midway Island when Pearl Harbor was bombed. He remained in Hawaii to help out for a few years. Meanwhile the rest of the family was still living in California. Dian’s mother became a Rosie the Riveter to help provide for the family while her husband was away. She was so small that she could fit in the fuselage of airplanes.

When Charles returned home, the family moved back to Tremonton, Utah where Dian grew up and graduated from Bear River High School. Dian originally wanted to go to Nursing School but they changed the 2 year program to 4 years so she decided to go to Beauty School instead. She graduated from Beauty School and went to work at a salon in Salt Lake City.

Dian met her future husband on a blind date that was setup by mutual friends. Gordon Norris Leth saw her walk into the restaurant and quickly said "I'm going to marry that girl over there!". To which his friend said that that was his date for the night. They were married 3 months later on July 6th, 1955. Dian and Gordon had 5 children, 3 sons and 2 daughters, Kenneth Jens, Susan, Linda Dean, Gordon, Kelly Lynn. They had 14 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild.
