Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Donald Ray Thresher, 82, was returned to his Heavenly Father's Embrace while surrounded by his loving family in Mesa, Arizona on April 27, 2014. He was born on September 16, 1931 in Olney, Texas to Arnold Doyle Thresher and Anna Lucy Garrett Thresher. He was preceded in death by his first wife Charlene Thresher, and his son, Mitchell. He is survived by his wife Donna Thresher of Mesa, AZ. Don graduated from Olney High School where he served in the ROTC, and continued to serve in the Texas Army National Guard. Upon graduation from the University of North Texas, he moved to Monahans, TX, where he worked as an insurance agent. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Monahans. In the year 2000, he served as President of the Monahans Lions Club. He enjoyed cooking with the Wagonmasters organization, working with the Monahans Optimist Club and speaking at the Toastmasters Club. As an avid golfer, you could find Don at the Senior Golf Club every Thursday at Monahans Country Club. After he moved to Mesa Arizona, he participated in various Lions Club charity golf tournaments with Mesa Host Lions Club. He was actively involved with Promise Keepers and the Awana Childrens' Program at First Baptist Church of Mesa, Arizona. Donald is survived by his daughter, Michelle (Damien) de Klerk and, grandchildren Garrett and Charlize de Klerk of Garland, Texas, Brandi (Ryan) Smythe and great-granddaughters Natalie, Samantha and Allison Smythe of New Castle, CO. He is also survived by his brother James Thresher, of Springtown, TX and his three stepsons, Donny, Dan, David (Mary) Williams and two granddaughters, Beth and Katie Williams. A viewing will be held at Harkey Funeral home at 210 S. Allen Avenue, Monahans, TX, 79756 on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., where family and friends may call. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Monahans, Texas. Arrangements have been made by SereniCare Funeral Home in Tempe, Arizona and Harkey Funeral Home in Monahans, Texas. The family is especially grateful for the loving kindness from Hospice of the Valley, Mesa Host Lions Club, First Baptist Church of Monahans, Texas and the First Baptist Church in Mesa, Arizona.
