Donald Eugene Toomey

Heaven is joyously welcoming Donald Eugene Toomey home to serve his new mission. Don passed away July 24, 2014 after several courageous years fighting multiple health issues. After he was born in Salt Lake City on March 17, 1930, his mother Rosa Cornwall died when he was 2. He was raised by his father Otto Norman Toomey and sweet mother Eunice Judkins Toomey. He had 4 siblings; Jesse, Helen, Eleanor and Joe. He graduated from South High School and then went to BYU where he first met Lorraine Beardall. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to South Africa and then returned home to marry his forever love, Lorraine. Don went on to graduate from BYU supporting his schooling and new family with his own dance band, the BYU Skyliners. Don was a warm loving man of hugs. Heavenly Father was his guiding light. He was a man of integrity, amazingly organized and had a great sense of humor. He was a second mile man both in church callings and in his business. He had an unfailing testimony of Jesus Christ. His business career spanned 42 years of corporate and estate planning experience. He was a nationally known lecturer and had his own Estate and Tax Planning business. Don always held a teaching or leadership position in the church. He loved being a scout master and helped in getting many young men to receive their Eagle Scout. Because of his deep love for children in his later years he always said his favorite calling was as junior primary teacher. He served in 3 bishoprics and was Bishop of the North Tahoe Ward. Don and Lorraine served a mission to Hawaii together which was one of the highlights of their lives. He then was called and instrumental in organizing and running the Salt Lake City Airport to Temple Square tours which to this day continues to change lives forever. He loved sports, basketball, football, golf, backpacking, motorcycling, and snow skiing. He loved sitting by a river or lake with family and friends, reading a good book and enjoying the beautiful world we live in. His family is the dearest blessing of his life. Don and Lorraine have 4 children, David, Phillip, Melodie and Sharyl. They are the proud grandparents of 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren who all love and adore him. You are invited to "A Celebration of Life" memorial service held in his honor at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 2nd at the Sunset 10th Ward, 415 Westridge Drive in St. George Utah. A visitation for friends and family will be held one hour prior to services at the church.
