Doris Lucille Jesperson

TOGETHER AT LAST
Doris Lucille Bender Jesperson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at her daughter's home in Orem, Utah. She was born May 5, 1914 to Charles and Nellie Hall Bender in Tampa, Kansas. She grew up in Binghampton, Arizona where she met her husband to be, Jim Jesperson, in high school. They were married October 13, 1936, just days before Jim left on his mission to Argentina. Doris worked during this time at the local phone company to help support her husband on his mission and built a small home for them to live in. Upon Jim's return, they traveled directly to Salt Lake City where they were sealed in the temple.
Doris and Jim later moved to San Diego, California where she served in many ward and stake callings. In 1965 she and her husband were called to preside over the Andes Mission. She later served with Jim in Ecuador while he was a full-time Regional Representative, as Matron of the Guayaquil, Ecuador Mission and at the Missionary Training Center in Mexico City, Mexico.
Doris was beloved by all who knew her for her kindness, patience, unselfish service to others and total devotion to the gospel. Through her example and influence, many hearts were touched, many spirits fortified, and many lost souls found the strength to overcome. Her home was always open to those in need, for a home-cooked meal and a place to stay. Her way was not to preach the gospel in words, but to live it in deeds.
Doris is survived by five children: Jenean (Robert) Godbold, Patricia (John) Pritchett, Mark (Solveig) Jesperson, Jamie (Ralph) Rasmussen, and John (Diana) Jesperson, along with 30 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 26, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at the Orem Sharon Stake Center located at 545 South 800 East. A public viewing will be held one hour prior to the service and on Sunday, February 25 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the same location. Interment will be at the Orem City Cemetery.
Special thanks to Hospices and the daily care givers and especially to Leann Jackson, RN who lovingly cared for Doris for over five years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Perpetual Education Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 50 E. North Temple, 15th Floor, Salt Lake City, Utah 84150.
