Eric David Benson passed away November 28, 2025. He was born September 11, 1979 to Lynn and David Benson in Hillsboro, Oregon. He received his medical degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency in Psychiatry at Orange Regional Medical Center followed by a fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry at Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Servcies in Grand Rapids, Michigan. At his passing, he worked at Intermountain Health LDS Hospital's Access Center, an emergency room for Psychiatric issues, and was a doctor for almost ten years, working solely in not-for-profit hospitals.
Eric was known for his kindness, especially those needing help. He was animated, fun loving, clever, and smart. Eric was a "stand-up guy" and a man of strong moral character.
During his life, Eric always maintained a spirit of joy in the simple things. He was quick to laugh and generously strived to get laughter out of others, even if he had to use himself as the brunt of the joke. He would always offer creative suggestions for fun and interesting things to do with others and he pursued those opportunities with vigor and enthusiasm.
Eric was a very curious man; he loved reading and writing, and he would immerse himself deeply in the books or movies he experienced, analyzing them in great detail, which reflected his dedication and passion for learning.
He had a noble and kind heart, and whenever he could, he helped those in need within his means. Eric's family's favorite memories were sitting around the kitchen table playing board games and sharing a big tub of buttered popcorn. Movie nights, video gaming sessions, learning to cook new recipes and playing made-up games in the cul-de-sac with the neighborhood kids. Also, the day he got married and the day his son was born. Eric loved to play board games with friends, run cross-country, read, hike, and develop signature dishes.
Eric's proudest accomplishments were the completion of two year mission trip with the LDS church, becoming a practicing physician, being a father, and any successful execution of a practical joke. He was also fluent in Spanish. And in his youth, he once ran 105 miles in a single week.
In every interest he pursued, Eric would always go all in, dedicating himself to a particular hobby, pursuit, or goal. He was an avid collector of Daredevil comics, a talented sketchbook artist, a dedicated cross country runner, a spiritual follower of Christ, a passionate doctor, and a family man.
Eric is survived by his parents; his son, Miller Benson; Wife, Elizabeth Benson and Brothers, Reid Benson and Sean Benson.
Funeral services are planned for Saturday, February, 21, 2026 at 1:00 pm MST, at the First Presbyterian Church of Salt Lake City (12 C St E, Salt Lake City, UT 84103) (www.fpcslc.org)
