Gerald Thomas Charles

Gerald Thomas Charles, a beacon of strength, love, and unyielding support, passed away on August 24, 2023, enveloped in the warmth and affection of his devoted family.

Born in the city of Chicago, on the 16th of April, 1944, to William Charles and Freda Standley, Gerald was a man whose roots informed his values of hard work and family. At a young age, Gerald moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. After completing high school, Gerald enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.

During this time, he bravely served two combat tours in Vietnam as a infantryman. A man of resolute pride in his service, Gerald often said, "Once a Marine, always a Marine," a creed that he embodied until his final days.

Upon his return to civilian life, Gerald assumed the role of supervisor at Cordin Company. It was within these halls that fate led him to his soulmate, Cynthia Mecham. Together, they embarked on a wondrous journey of love and companionship, cherishing 55 and a half years of marital bliss that stood as a testament to their enduring affection.

In his earlier years, Gerald was an avid bodybuilder, frequenting the gym with a passion that would remain with him throughout his lifetime.

Above all else, Gerald's heart was dedicated to the well-being of his family.  A loving father to Thomissa, Shelly, Ashley, and Logan, Gerald reveled in the joys of fatherhood. From crafting intricate dollhouses to engineering miniature race cars, he channeled his creative energy into tangible tokens of love for his children. That boundless love and creativity extended to his cherished grandchildren. An exemplar of virtuous living, Gerald imparted invaluable life lessons to the younger generations—teaching them about the sanctity of hard work, the weight of loyalty, and the irreplaceable value of family unity.

Ever generous, ever compassionate, Gerald had the unique ability to befriend anyone he met, becoming a lasting symbol of kindness and generosity in every life he touched. He never hesitated to extend a helping hand, reflecting his inherent wish to make the world a better place.

The legacy Gerald leaves behind is one of immeasurable love and unwavering commitment to his family. Though he will be profoundly missed, his memory will continue to serve as an eternal source of inspiration and comfort for all who were fortunate enough to know him. May the memory of this extraordinary man live in our hearts forever.
