Gloria Lenz

Gloria M. Lenz 1921 - 2013 Beloved mother, stepmother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend to many, passed away peacefully in Provo, Utah on March 7, 2013 at the age of 91. She will be lovingly remembered by her two children, Karen Varley of Provo, Utah and Frederick W. Tetzlaff of San Rafael, California, grandchildren Adrienne (Kyle) Burdette, Noel (Robert) Ehlers , and Jerry Varley as well as seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six sisters and a brother. Gloria was born in Scarsdale, New York to Vincent and Josefina (Arena) Maragliotti. Vincent was a nationally-recognized artist, decorator, and muralist whose works adorn many churches, state capitols, museums, governors' mansions, and public buildings across the country. After graduating from Roosevelt High School, Gloria worked as an assistant to her father in his studio above Grand Central Station in New York City. In 1942 she married Frederick W. Tetzlaff, the father of her two children. In the late 1960s she moved with her second husband Sidney Lenz to Bonifay, Florida. There she led a happy and active life surrounded by many friends and students who attended her art classes. She delighted in spending her free time painting and playing the organ in her home in Dogwood Lakes. She developed a local reputation as an accomplished artist. Three years after the death of Mr. Lenz in May of 1996, she moved to Provo, Utah to be closer to her daughter and her family, and she continued to enjoy working at her art. Her home was always filled with friends, neighbors, and children who delighted in her sparkling personality, her quick wit, and her generous hospitality. Gloria never let anyone leave her house without having something to eat. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life service on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at 7:00PM at Parkway 3rd Ward, 2876 West 1390 North, Provo. A light supper will follow the service. Gloria will rest next to her late husband, Sidney in Bonifay, Florida. There will be a graveside service in Bonifay, under the direction of the Peel Funeral Home. For more information regarding time and place of the graveside service please contact Peel Funeral Home at 850-547-4144. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to a charity of choice.
