James Leonard Ellis

James Leonard Ellis, 62, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, August 5, 2006. His battle with cancer was short, but fought with great courage and dignity. Jim was born November 1, 1943 in Salt Lake City to James Arthur and Ruth Kohles Ellis. He went to East High School and graduated from Highland High.
He served for eight years in the Utah National Guard, Military Police Unit. He attended the Salt Lake Police Academy, graduating fifth in his class. He graduated from Salt Lake Community College with an Associates Degree in heavy duty mechanics. Jim loved the outdoors and enjoyed spending time in the mountains among the wonders of nature. He captured many of his experiences through photography and generously shared his photographs with others. Jim was always willing to help everyone in any way that he could. He could fix just about anything that needed fixing and even a few things that didn't. He enjoyed working in his shop, especially when he had a project. Although Jim was rather quiet and kept things to himself, once anyone got to know him they would find a true friend. He was well liked by friends, neighbors, coworkers, and the morning breakfast group. He felt especially close to his family of coworkers at Relms, Inc. He will be deeply missed by those who knew him.
Jim is survived by his wife, Ranae; children, Jamie, and fianca€š Eric, Ryan, also Michelle; sisters, Judy Susman, Joan Banning, and Jean Riley; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and twin daughters, Alicia and Janette.
The family wishes to express thanks to the Huntsman Cancer Hospital and the many doctors, nurses, and aides who assisted him while he was in their care. Thanks also to Rocky Mountain Hospice for the comforting care they provided to Jim and his family throughout his last days at home.
