James Jorgenson, affectionately known as J.J. by his friends and loved ones, passed away on, June 14th, 2023 in Salt Lake City Utah.
James spent much of his life as a commercial truck driver, driving everything from Penske trucks to the big rigs. Whether he was on a local run or long haul, James demonstrated an unmatched work ethic, and he applied that same ethic to his personal life as well.
He had only one son, Justin, whom he cherished dearly. In Justin’s growing up years, James was very involved in his son's life, especially in soccer, where he was often Justin’s coach. Under James' guidance, Justin’s team made it all the way to the national finals. Soccer became a great love between father and son, so much so that they attended the World Cup in 1994 for the match between Brazil and Italy.
James also loved watching horses run at Santa Anita raceway, but never gambled. he was always up for an adventure with Justin and loved going fishing with him, In particular Shaver Lake holds special memories for both of them
Despite working hard throughout his life, James always found time for hobbies and interests. He enjoyed watching old westerns and never missed a good Judge Judy episode. He kept his yard immaimmaculate, plants trimmed with beautiful green grass and perfect edges. As a history buff with a particular interest in military history (perhaps because of his own commendable service), James liked nothing more than learning about battles and wars gone by.
Speaking of military service: shortly after graduating from Montebello High School, James joined the United States Air Force where he served in South Korea and the Vietnam war. He was assigned Rear Gunman on a B-52 bomber, a difficult and dangerous position.
Even though he only weighed 155 pounds when joining the military service he was fearless in every endeavor. He was honorably discharged and became a strong man, having served well and keeping his love for his country close to heart. Without question, James remained a loyal patriot throughout his life.
J.J. had a quick wit, and always wanting everyone around him to be happy. He would show his affection by giving gifts, and loved telling jokes in an old school way. Although he appeared tough on the outside he was very tender on the inside.
James passed peacefully where his last few days were spent surrounded by the family that he loved so much. He was never alone and he was very well taken care of by the VA staff who showed him love and dedication.
James was proud of several accomplishments throughout his life, such as raising his son Justin and watching him grow into a man of honor. Watching Justin raise a young family of his own brought a smile to James’ face. He had a passion for serving with his time in the military or it remained a significant source of pride for him all throughout his years.
Later in life, James was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was a special moment for him and had a significant resonance deep within him. He never stopped loving God, and it warmed everyone's hearts to see him reconnect with his faith towards the end.
James will be missed deeply by all who loved him. Those who knew him best include: Justin A. Jorgenson, Jayden Jorgenson (grandson), McKenna Jorgenson (daughter-in-law), and Randy Jorgenson (brother). He is preceded in death by Lola Elizabeth Jorgenson(mother) and Arthur Jorgenson(father).
His life will always be remembered with love, joy, humor and tenderness that came naturally to James - a man who embodied service to others with humility, integrity and kindness until his final breath.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, June 22, 2023 at the LDS Chapel at:
with a viewing prior to the service from 10-10:45am. Interment will be same day directly after the service at the Utah Veterans Memorial Park in Bluffdale, Utah.
