Jane Briggs Bowen Chase

Jane Bowen Chase 1936 ~ 2007 Jane Bowen Chase, beloved wife, mother and grandmother died at home in Bountiful, Utah, on Jan. 8, 2007, after an extended battle with breast cancer. She was surrounded by her family. Jane was born Jane Briggs Bowen on March 22nd, 1936, to Wendell Miller and Marba Briggs Bowen in Spanish Fork, Utah. The Bowen family moved to Salt Lake in 1940 and Jane grew up there with her brother Bruce Bowen (Renee Brooksby Bowen) of Salt Lake City. Jane graduated from South High School and later from Brigham Young University. After completing her education, she taught junior high school English and developed a love for language, writing and teaching; passions she carried with her for her entire life. On June 26th, 1959, Jane married her high school sweetheart, Phillip DeLance Chase at the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together, they raised four children and remained happily married for more than 47 years. Jane was a faithful and devout member of the Orchard 7th Ward in Bountiful and served in Primary, Sunday School, and both ward and stake Relief Societies. She was blessed with a warm and engaging sense of humor and a gift for writing. She wrote a number of prize winning "Road Shows" and appeared in numerous ward and stake productions, acting, dancing and singing with infectious enthusiasm. Her love of children and children's literature were among her best known traits. She kept closets full of children's books for herself and her grandchildren - always buying two copies so she could give the second as an impromptu gift. She was lovingly known as Grandma Jane to her own six grandchildren and one great grandchild, as well as dozens of others whom she "adopted" along the way. Jane is survived by her husband, Phillip D. Chase of Bountiful; four children, Karl (Bountiful), Kevin (Los Angeles), and Steven Chase (Bountiful), and Wendy Chase Arnold (Joseph G. Arnold) (Roosevelt), as well as grandchildren Jamie Chase, Stephanie Murphy, Madison, Colton, Mallory and Carter Arnold, and one great grandchild, Brooklyn Van Woerkom. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 11, at 12:00 noon at the Orchard 7th Ward, 3599 Orchard Drive in Bountiful UT. The service will be immediately preceded by a viewing beginning at 9:30. In addition to her family, Jane leaves behind a wealth of friends, neighbors. Her family wish to thank the many who provided care and companionship for Jane during her illness. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Breast Cancer research.
