The world just lost a giving, caring, and loving person who was also one hell of a gardener! Her fresh garden salsa was always a hit.
She was born in Ardmore, OK, to Clayton and Marjorie Johnson, the third of five children. The family moved around following Clayton’s work assignments: to Denver and later Golden, CO, in the 1950s and then to Salt Lake City, UT in1959.
She attended Campion Academy in CO, graduating in 1967, then attended college in Walla Walla, WA, for one year before moving back to Salt Lake to attend Stevens-Henager business college. She married into the Hendricks clan resulting in her only child, Clint (1974-2023).
She loved her years working at the Jordan Valley School and then for the USDA Forest Service in SLC and Vernal, UT. She found a lot of value in her service at both places. While working at the Forest Service she received multiple service awards while also raising Clint as a single mom. Then she found value in her work in the locum tenens industry helping doctors obtain their medical licenses in different states. She worked in the personal medical health insurance industry, in an underwriting department, until that section of the industry collapsed.
Joreen married Dave Hall and they stayed together until her passing. They were good friends for years (from 1975 on) until they finally married in 1992. Joreen got her yard and garden and Dave got his garage and cars. They were best friends, adored, and supported each other in all things. What a team!
She cared for others for many years by helping them maintain their independence for as long as possible. Her love for family was inspiring/amazing. The list includes her brother, Bret Johnson, her father, mother, mother-in-law (Carol Hall), father-in-law (Mel Hall), and her son as they all passed.
She is survived by Dave, brothers Clay and Jon, sister Janice DelMar, in-laws, and nieces and nephews. With her impressive vocabulary and language skills, she would have written a much better version of this. We will miss that, too.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Her favorite nonprofits were KUER, The Salt Lake Tribune, and Volunteers of America. If you like, please pick one and donate in her honor.
