Josie Campbell

Josie Campbell, age 90, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2025. She was born on July 17, 1934, in the quiet town of Questa, New Mexico.

Josie grew up in Questa and later moved to Grand Junction, Colorado, where she married Raymond Rivas in February 1953. After several years, she made her permanent home in Salt Lake City, Utah. There, she later married John Campbell in September 1986. Josie spent much of her life caring for others, working as a devoted caregiver at St. Joseph’s Villa.

At the age of 50, Josie experienced what she considered her greatest accomplishment—giving her heart, soul, and life to God. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she cherished her relationship with the Lord deeply. Josie also loved her children beyond measure. They were the light of her life and her pride and joy.

She found happiness in the simple things—cooking, cleaning, embroidering—and in listening to the ministry of Jimmy Swaggart. Josie especially loved preparing meals for her family when they came to visit from out of town—this was her way of showing love, care, and hospitality. Her warm heart and selfless spirit touched everyone who knew her.

Josie is preceded in death by her sons Jim Rivas and Fready Rivas; sisters Nora Herrera, Becky Hidalgo, and Louise Campos; brothers Jake and Junior Redding; parents Florencio and Claudina Redding; and her beloved husbands, Raymond Rivas and John Campbell.

She is survived by her children: Steve Rivas (Ivonne), Lorry Rivas, Robert Rivas, and Anthony Campbell; her daughter-in-law Rosemary Rivas (wife of her late son Jim); her sister Mary Placencia (Jerry); her brother Joe Redding; and sister-in-law Joyce Redding (wife of her late brother Junior Redding). She leaves behind a proud legacy through her grandchildren: Larry Rivas, Jeff Maes, Rachelle Rodriguez (Pepe), Robert Rivas Jr. (Mindy), Shaton Campbell, D.J. Shaw, Raymond Rivas Jr. (Brittany), Mackenzie Poppleton, Felicia Kahlert, Mason Campbell, and Addie Campbell—as well as 26 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-granddaughters, and many nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.

A funeral service to honor Josie’s life will be held on May 24th at 2:00 PM at Premier Funeral Services, located at 67 E 8000 S, Midvale, UT 84047. Dinner location TBD.

“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” —Psalm 23:4
