Judith Bowers Dykman was a devoted wife, daughter and sister. She passed away quietly surrounded by her family on June 4, 2025.

Judy had a great love for her family, she persevered through life’s trials and met them with determination and fortitude. She was known for her kindness and charity towards others being the first to step in and offer help when others faced hardships. She had a great compassion for animals, especially Golden Retrievers who became her lifelong companions.

Judy was born on December 29, 1946, in Salt Lake City to Raymond and Elise (Terry) Bowers. She was the oldest of 8 children. Judy was a dedicated learner receiving a bachelor’s degree from Utah State University in World Geography and Religion. Two bachelor’s degrees in English and History from Weber State and then going on to earn a M.Ed. Degree from BYU in Education focusing on teaching Utah history and american government.

Judy and her husband Jim worked together in taking her Utah History students on field trips to Mesa Verde National Park, Edge of the Cedars National Monument, Utah’s Dinosaur Museum, trips along the Pony Express Trail and Golden Spike National Monument at Promontory Point. Judy’s extensive travels through Utah’s landmarks instilled in her family, friends, and students an appreciation for Utah’s past.

Judy was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints. As she taught history with an emphasis on religion, she stated that “I hoped that my students would see that a person’s religious beliefs affect his/her behavior and emotions.”
