June Johnson Lance

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and wonderful friend, June Johnson Lance passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at the great age of 99 years! Her journey on this earth began June 11, 1914 in Tooele, Utah as the 9th child of Abia Ezekiel and Violet Jane Bevan Johnson. At the age of two, she moved with her family to a home in the avenues of Salt Lake City, Utah and graduated from West High School in Salt Lake City. Following the death of both of her parents at the age of 18, she moved to San Diego to be near all of her sisters. June lived with one of her sisters until her marriage to Fredrick Howell Lance on April 24, 1937 in San Diego. June and Fred raised their 3 sons, John Fredrick Lance currently of Donnelly, Idaho, Richard Henry Lance (Marsha) of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Daniel James Lance (Sherrie) of Kaysville, Utah. June spent most of her 50 years in California in the San Diego area. Upon the death of her husband Fred in 1982, she moved in with her son Dan and his wife Sherrie who were then living in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Dan's family relocated to Utah in 1986 where June spent the rest of her life. Widowed for 31 1/2 years, she had a remarkable positive attitude, always a big smile on her face, hugs and kisses to share with so many. June was known for her wisdom, her empathy and acceptance of others and a good listening ear. She belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in numerous leadership and teaching positions over her long life, serving as long as she could. June loved chocolate and peanut brittle. She kept ice cream companies in business for many years. She was often caught with chocolate in the corners of her mouth. Her influence and love was spread far and wide. She sent out many cards remembering her beloved family and friends on their birthdays and at Christmas time. June was generous with the things she had been blessed with in this life. She had a grateful heart and would never want to be a bother to anyone. She was known as Grandma June to many in her family, neighborhood and ward. She was a lot of fun! For years she would sit down on the floor and play with children. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and games like Scrabble and knew words no one else had even heard of. She was known by her family as adding words to the dictionary. June like to stay current with the news. She was a big fan of Fox News and had a crush on Shepard Smith. June remembered people's names and was loved by many. The only one who didn't like June was her mother in-law! She was the queen of thrift store and bargain shopping and shared that skill with many of her friends and family. She is survived by her 3 sons, 9 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren that we know of. Funeral services will be held at the LDS Orchard Chapel at 1282 W. 1875 N. in Farmington near Cherry Hill Campground on Saturday July 27th at 11:00 a.m. Family will meet with friends and family at a viewing beginning at 9:45 a.m. that morning. She will be interred in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Idaho Falls, Idaho next to her husband Fred.
