Kerry Fuhrmann Moore

Kerry F. Moore passed away after a courageous and extended battle with pancreatic cancer, surrounded by the love of his family. Though his journey here ended sooner than anyone hoped, Kerry lived a life full of joy, adventure, music, faith, and devotion to those he loved most.

Kerry was born on April 24, 1957, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the firstborn child of Mason F. and Trudy (Waltraut) Moore. His early years were spent on the west side of Salt Lake City, near his beloved grandparents, before the family moved to Bountiful in 1964. There, he was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, attended Adelaide Elementary, South Davis Junior High, Woods Cross High School, and graduated from Viewmont High. He later attended the University of Utah before serving a two-year LDS mission in Denmark — an experience he considered one of the highlights of his life.

After returning from his mission, Kerry continued his studies in Architecture, Music, Philology, and German at the University of Utah. He also studied abroad for a year at Christian Albrechts Universität in Kiel, Germany, and traveled extensively throughout Europe with his close friend Crad. Upon his return, he began what would become his life’s calling — teaching. He taught LDS Seminary for a year at Viewmont High, which led him to a decades-long teaching career at South High and then at Cyprus High School, where he served as the choral music director and German teacher for 35 years. He retired in 2019, later enjoying years as a beloved substitute teacher. Kerry’s legacy as a teacher, mentor, and inspiration lives on through the thousands of students and families whose lives he touched.

In his first year of teaching, Kerry met Stacey Swaner — a beautiful redheaded ballerina from Ballet West who quickly became the love of his life. The two were married in the Salt Lake Temple and shared a life full of passion, creativity, travel, and deep love. Together they raised their two children, Whitney and Dayne, first in Sugarhouse and later in their cherished home in Mount Olympus Cove. After their children married and started families of their own, Kerry and Stacey moved back to Bountiful to be near his parents.

Kerry’s life was full of immense joy, but also trials — including a near-fatal heart attack and a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer — challenges he fought with courage, grace, and an abiding faith in Jesus Christ. His will to live, his strength, and his optimism carried him through what became an incredible, extended battle. Throughout those many years, he was sustained by the constant love and tireless care of his wife, Stacey, whose devotion, sacrifice, and tenderness were a source of daily strength. Even as his health declined, Kerry continued to share his testimony, music, wit, and love with everyone around him — never losing sight of the joy and beauty in life.

He found joy in his grandchildren, music, teaching, theatre, the piano, the mountains, sunny beaches, travel, observing people, and in serving others. Kerry left this world a happy and content man — ever hopeful that, when meeting his Savior, he would hear the words: “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Kerry is survived by his wife and eternal companion, Stacey; his children, Whitney (Alan Wilbur) and Dayne (Whitney Moore); and six cherished grandchildren — Greyson, Cohen, William, and Evie (children of Whitney and Alan), and Finn and Rory (children of Dayne and Whitney) — all of whom live in Bountiful, Utah. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, kindness, humor, and love.

His final words to his family: "I love you, Stacey! I will miss you more than I could ever express. Remember: 'Now and Forever!' And I love you, Whitney and Dayne — and your families. See you all later! And I mean that sincerely — I will see you all a little later. Be good, be happy, and take good care of each other and this beautiful earth. Life is good!"
