Larry Hitner

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Larry Mike Hitner, of St. George, Utah left on his big trip on February 27, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family in the days leading up to and at the time of his departure. Larry was born on February 8, 1937 in McPherson, Kansas to Dorthy Bangs Carmichael and Eugene Delbert (Mike) Carmichael, later adopted by his step-father, Robert Moore Hitner. His beautiful wife, D.A., was his faithful love and companion for 53 wonderful, fulfilling years. His legacy includes two daughters, Susan Funk (John) of Salt Lake, Alison Mouton (Philippe) of Lyon, France, and six very special grandchildren who love him dearly - Jeremy, Madeleine, and Francois Mouton, Zachary and Tucker Nickman, and Marisa Funk. Each had their own special place in his heart and he has taken a piece of each of theirs with him on his journey. He is also survived by siblings Jimmy Carmichael of Magnolia, Arkansas; Johnny Carmichael (Beverly, Amanda, Sarah) of Dalton, Georgia; and Susan Gill (Russ) of Magnolia. Larry graduated from Rollins College, Winter Park, Florida before serving in the U.S. Navy. His career as a non-profit fundraiser began in Florida and ended at the Louisville Presbyterian Seminary from which he retired in 2002. Besides spending time with his family, he enjoyed buying and selling antiques, photography, genealogy, travel, food and wine, and last but not least, chocolate! A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Grace Episcopal Church, 1072 East 900 South, St. George, Utah. Memorial donations may be made to Grace Church or the charity of your choice. Please share memories and condolences at www.serenicare.com. Thank you to his caregivers - Dr. Bryan Ellsworth; and Bob Murphy of Applegate Hospice. We would also like to express special gratitude to The Reverend Dr. Catherine Gregg, Rector of Grace Episcopal Church for her loving service to Larry and our family. We will miss you Popsidoodle!
