Linda Maynard Gurney age 82 passed away peacefully on March 4th, 2026 at her home in Lehi UT after a courageous struggle with cancer. Linda was born on May 28th,1943 in Murray UT to Theodore and Sarah Maynard. She was the youngest of 11 children and grew up in a modest home in South Jordan UT. With all of those children in the house there was plenty of work to go around, and fun to be had. They enjoyed playing outdoors, roller skating, swimming at Saratoga, and sitting on the front lawn in the evening while her brothers and brothers in law would play their guitars and sing. She loved her parents and siblings very much and had many fond memories of her childhood.
Linda Maynard married Kenneth Earl Gurney on May 16th, 1960. They were later sealed in the Salt lake Temple on February 18 1966. Together they raised 6 children creating many happy memories. They worked hard together, always taking on projects to do around the house. They loved being outdoors, spending summers in the canyon camping, fishing, and taking road trips. They both had big families and loved spending time with them. They lived in Lehi most of their married life, and were married for 52 years prior to Ken’s passing in 2012.
Linda was a very busy person, she didn’t sit still much. She was a hard worker, kept a very tidy house, and was always serving her family. As well as being a homemaker she worked outside of the home through the years doing different jobs to help support her family. She was a wonderful cook and baker, was always making delicious meals, baking homemade bread, treats and candies.
Some of her other interests, and hobbies were crocheting, painting, gardening, canning fruits and jams, doing puzzles, and she never missed an opportunity to get up and dance. She loved a good celebration and enjoyed the chance to gather with family and friends.
She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many ward callings over the years. One of her favorite callings later in life was baking bread for the sacrament. She loved the Temple and would serve there often. She loved God, the Savior and her family with all of her heart. Linda touched the lives of all who knew her. The final months of her life were a blessing as she was able to spend a lot of time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends. Her family lovingly cared for her at home and cooked her favorite meals. We are so grateful for her example of Hard work, Faith, Strength, and Courage as she gracefully endured to the end.
We loved her very much, and are going to miss her dearly but find comfort in knowing the joyful reunion she is having with those who passed before her. Linda was proceeded in death by her beloved husband Kenneth Earl Gurney, her sons Jared Kenneth Gurney, and Jeremy Brent Gurney, Grandson Cory Gurney, parents Theodore and Sarah Maynard and 9 siblings.
Linda is survived by her children Lynnette (Brian) Bennion, Sherri (Jay) Barney, Shawn (Jan) Gurney, Wendy (Josh) Bushman, and a brother Reed Maynard. Along with many extended family members who will cherish her memory.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, March 12th 2026, from 10:00-11:30 am followed by funeral services at the Lehi 21st Ward building located at 1364 W 1870 N Lehi, UT.
Interment will follow at the Lehi City Cemetery 530 E 1450 N Lehi, UT.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to family members, ward family, and friends, who offered support, many prayers, and surrounded her with Love.
