Lonna Jean Nelson Kelly died peacefully Tuesday, March 10,2026 shy of her 83rd birthday. Lonna was born March 27, 1944, in Hackensack (Brainerd) MN. She was 5th of 7 children born to Laurance Arvid Nelson and Iris Annetta Bodenhofer.
Lonna was sealed in the Los Angeles Temple after meeting D. Glenn Kelly at an LDS Singles Activity (1965) in San Francisco, CA. Glenn & Lonna had 2 children during their marriage: Scott Glenn (Hiromi) Kelly and Tammy Renee (Richard) Maglievaz. They had 7 grandchildren: Kaori & Sheena and Zachary, Sarah, Kelly-Marie, Joseph and Emily.
Lonna was her mother’s right hand and helped with meals for their large family and missionaries who stayed in their home and with church callings. Her mother, Iris Nelson was the 3-year-old Primary teacher and Lonna took over the reigns serving in that calling (Sunbeams) for 35 years no matter where she lived.
Lonna recalls her childhood years fishing in the many lakes in MN and moving more times than anyone could count (23+) as an Army Brat. She didn’t meet her deployed Army Sergeant father until she was 2 years old. She graduated high school in Stuttgart, Germany. Glenn & Lonna served 10+ years as Ordinance Workers in the Jordan River LDS temple.
Lonna is predeceased by her husband, Glenn Kelly (2016) and their parents and siblings.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 16, 2026, downtown SLC SereniCare and Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery with her husband.
