Marvilla passed away peacefully on Aug. 29, 2006 in Pleasant Grove, Utah. She was born March 25, 1909, in the mining town of Grass Creek, Utah, Marvilla was born to Esther and William Thornton. Marvilla lived in the Ogden, Utah area for almost 90 years where she attended school and loved sports, especially swimming.
Marvilla married Grant Warren Child on Nov. 9, 1932 in Ogden, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden Temple. Their daughter Maxine was born in 1937. Grant and Marvilla were avid fishermen and enjoyed many happy times together. Marvilla developed the gift and talent as a seamstress. She served the Lord in many ways but especially through the Relief Society and Temple service.
She is survived by her daughter Maxine and her son-in-law (Sterling) Treseder, her beloved grandchildren; Jill, Kristine, Nanette, Scott and Leslie Ann, 17 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson, sisters; Gladys Ball and Esther Christensen, brother, Dave Thornton. She was preceded in death by her husband Grant, granddaughter Michelle, sisters; Elsie, Nora, Josephine, and brother, William.
Services will be held on Saturday, September 2 at the Orchard Park LDS Church, 3270 Orchard Ave, Ogden at 12:00 with a viewing starting at 10:45.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Primary Children's Hospital. The family would like to extend a thank you to the many caregivers who helped along the way.
