Mary Roxy Elizabeth Trammell

There is something about Mary; she brings to mind family dinners, apple pie, rural fields and old farms, sunny skies, rag dolls, a favorite yellow cat, laughing children and wonderful Christmases; a twinkle in the eyes and a loving, knowing smile warmed by a lifetime of loving, caring and serving.
Mom was born in Van Buren, Arkansas on September 27th 1922 in a humble little cottage by a railroad track to William Joseph Smith Higginbottom and Modie Leona Merrill Higginbottom. She was preceded in death by her husband Wallace Irven Trammell and two sons Timothy Trammell (died at birth 1950 ) and Andrew Joseph Trammell (plane crash 1981). Mary is survived by 6 children: Carolyn Ruth Trammell Reece, Wallace Edgar Trammell, Thomas Benjamin Trammell, Terry Jean Trammell Curtis, Suzanne Trammell Woodard, and Steven Gregory Trammell. She is also survived in death by her cherished sister and brother: Jeanetta Wandalee Higginbottom Alexander and Joseph Benjamin Higginbottom. Mary has 38 grandchildren, 64 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Today we remember her with endearing love, admiration and deep respect as our beloved Mother, Sister, Grandmother, and Aunt.
At just 5 years old Mary was sent to live with her grandmother Mary Ruth Higginbottom Bolen because her mother was ill. Her mother passed away at just 25 years of age due to illness.
Her grandparents were itinerant farmers. Her early childhood was during the Great Depression Era, and the ravages of the Dust Bowl culminated in a "Grapes of Wrath" like trek to Southern California where her grandparents, father, sister and brother began a new life.
There she married Wallace Irven Trammell a US Marine Corps Cpl. When World War II broke out Dad was sent to the South Pacific. At the end of WWII they lived a nomadic life moving where Dad could find work. In later life she came to live with and help those children she felt needed her most. In the end she and her oldest daughter lived together in Springville, Utah. The last year of her life her oldest daughter Carol lovingly and faithfully cared for her until her death. (Thank you Carolyn for your love and sacrifice for our Mother.)
Mom sacrificed and devoted her entire life for her husband and children. Everything she had she gave to those in need. No one in need or hungry was ever turned from her door. She lived a life of caring and loving. She went out of her way to never offend or hurt others. She was forgiving; had a short memory for trespasses, returning love for unkindness. Possessing an abiding faith in Jesus as the Christ with unbent courage strengthened by an unwavering belief in God, her last words were a whispered prayer.
