Their only child, Virginia Diane, was born in Springfield in 1953. An important event occurred in 1969 when after much soul searching they and their daughter were baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -day Saints. The following year they made their first trip to Utah and were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. In 1978 the family moved to Utah. Upon retirement in 1987, Dawson and Muriel were called to serve in the North Carolina Raleigh Mission of the church. Later they served in the North Dakota Rapid City Mission. Muriel served in Mt. Timpanogos and Provo Temples as an ordinance worker with her husband until his health forced their retirement from this assignment. In 2004 Muriel was called to serve in the Missouri St. Louis Mission with Sister Frances V. Smith. Muriel was a member of the Wasatch Literary Society and Daughters of the American Revolution. In Church assignments she served as Ward Relief Society president and Stake Relief Society counselor while living in New York State. She enjoyed people, traveling, theater, reading and flowers.
