Nellie Keith Tinhorn

Nellie Keith Tinhorn died peacefully on September 25, 2006 with her loving family by her side. She was born on January 1, 1916 to Old Man Bob and Mary Keith in Chil'Chin Betoh Arizona.

Mere words cannot describe this amazing and beloved woman. She was a humble but well-known Navajo woman that was raised in the Navajo traditions and had a vast knowledge of the traditional ceremonies, language and culture. Many of these traditions will be lost with her. Nellie was very loving and compassionate. She spent here life in the service of others. She was a very wise woman and herbalist; people came from all over to seek her remedies. She was a teacher of the "Kinship" or the teaching of Keh and taught the teachings of Hozho which is a philosophy of positive of thinking so one can ultimately make a difference in the world. The craft of weaving sash belts and saddle blankets was an art she loved doing. She was only 4'10 but she could out-work anyone and was happy doing it. She had words of wisdom and love for her family during the last few minutes of her life and left this earth as a master teacher and a true servant to mankind. She will be greatly missed.

Nellie is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Jil Brown; Charlie Keith; Buddy Smith; Sara Begay; Leo Keith; Husky Yazzie and Bah Deschene, children, Bobby Holkidney; Tommy Holkidney and Henry Tinhorn. She is survived by her brothers Tom, Roy and Raymond Keith and children, Gladys Jones; Lillie Yazzie; Lena Bush; Albert Tinhorn; Eileen Quintana.
