Patricia Adele (McDermott) Phillips of Mount Dora, Florida, passed away at the home of her daughter on May 22, 2014. She was 76 years old. Patricia was born on July 13, 1937 in Benton Harbor, Michigan to Louis Vincent and Celina Elizabeth (Perham) McDermott. Patricia retired as a computer programmer from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She later retired from Stetson University in Deland, Florida. After retirement Patricia volunteered at Waterman Hospital and Angel Flight in Mount Dora, Florida where she resided. Patricia was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Mount Dora. Patricia devoted her life to her family. In 2006 she toured Ireland with three of her daughters and three of her granddaughters in search of her family ancestry. In 2011 Patricia and two of her daughters returned to Ireland and visited England to meet cousins from her paternal grandmother's family. Patricia traveled the United States extensively while visiting her children and vacationing with her siblings or one of her many friends. She enjoyed playing cards, taking an occasional gambling trip to Las Vegas with friends or Wendover, Utah with one of her sons, Bingo at St. Patrick's, spending time with loved ones and reading in her quiet moments. Surviving Patricia are her seven children from her former husband, Charles W. Phillips Sr: Elizabeth (Andrew) Parling of Zeeland, Michigan; Patrice Bauman of North Salt Lake, Utah; Sherri (Mike) Pell, Leann (Rodger) Garrison and Charles Phillips Jr. of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Michael (Lisa) Phillips of Magna, Utah; and Julie (Edward) Minor of Chicago, Illinois. Patricia was also blessed with 23 grandchildren: Jaime, Carrie, Daniel, and Steven VanderVeen; Shannon, Joshua, Heather, Sara, David, and Kevin Bauman; Caitlin Pell; Hannah and Jack Garrison; Nicholas and Jeremy Phillips; Brandon, Tyler and Justin Phillips; Robert Michael Aguilar; Amanda, Kyle, Randy, and Tammy VanderVeen. She was further blessed with 25 great-grandchildren. Also surviving Patricia is her sister, Sharon (Tony) Dickey and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Louis and Floyd (Nancy) McDermott; and two sisters, Doris Mead and Phyllis (Charles) Siebert. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, June 2nd at St. John Catholic Church, 600 Columbus Ave, Benton Harbor, Michigan. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery, 1736 Napier Ave, Benton Harbor Michigan. A luncheon will be held at the church following the inurnment.
