Robert Clair Neel 1927 - 2006

Robert Clair Neel, age 79, our beloved father, grandfather, and brother died on October 4, 2006 from complications as a result of a fall. He was born on May 21, 1927 in Park City, Utah to John Clair Neel and Mary Elizabeth Turnbow. He married his eternal companion, Constance Irene Lund, on August 13, 1951 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Bob attended South Summit High School and graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelors and later a masters degree in education. A school teacher for more than thirty years in the Granite School district, he touched the lives of numerous students with a teaching style that mixed a disciplined classroom with abundant fun. Our father taught the value of hard work by example. He founded a printing business that he operated for many years in the early morning and evening after teaching to provide for his family. A devoted member of the LDS church, he fulfilled an LDS mission as a young man in the North Central States, and later served with his wife in the Philippines Naga mission and in several service missions at LDS Church Headquarters. He spent countless hours transcribing tens of thousands of names for family extraction work. A man of many talents and great generosity with an uncanny ability to fix almost anything, Bob was always ready to help a neighbor or friend in need. He was an expert fly fisherman who enjoyed tying his own flies. He loved fishing Utah's mountain streams and declared that his last fishing trip with his brother Glen was the best of his life. While we are saddened by his passing, we rejoice in a life well-lived and a glorious reunion with his wife of 55 years who died three years ago nearly to the day. He is survived by his six children, Robert (Gloria) of Chattanooga, TN, Stuart (Trina) of Herndon, VA, Valeri Stewart (Scott) of Sandy, UT, Peggy Perkins of SLC, UT, Trent (Valene) of Dayton, OH, and Elise Horne (Marc) of Draper, UT, 20 grandchildren and six great grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Monday, October 9, at the East Millcreek 11th Ward, 2702 E. Evergreen Ave (3350 South) in Salt Lake City. Family and friends may visit an hour prior to services and on Sunday evening at the Church from 6:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. Internment will follow at Elysian Burial Gardens.
