Robert Lee Phelps

Robert Lee Phelps On Thursday, July 16, 2015, our beloved husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend, Robert Lee Phelps, age 69, passed away in his home surrounded by his family. Robert was born on December 1, 1945 in Hermosa Beach, California. He was the son of Howard and Ruth Phelps. On June 19, 1970, he married the love of his life, Sandra Humphrey, at his childhood home. They were later sealed together with their children for time and all eternity in the Los Angeles, LDS Temple. Robert enlisted in the US Army in 1967, and served one tour in Vietnam in the Construction Battalion. He was later honorably discharged after finishing his military career in Germany. Robert was devoted to working hard and setting an example for his family. He was employed as an LA County Fireman, and later as a General Contractor, building custom homes in the hills of southern California. Robert also built several large hospitals, including the Sierra Vista emergency room and the NICU at French Hospital. Robert was a great example to his children by continuing his education as a full-time student acquiring a minor in Art, a BA in architecture from Cal Poly University, as well as a Masters in both Architecture and Business. Robert was in his last year of his Doctorate when he became ill. Robert always had a passion for education and his dream was that all of his children and grandchildren attain the highest level of education in their desired career. Robert enjoyed serving in different capacities for his church. Robert served as a head coach of a highly competitive softball team in Mission Viejo for his ward. Bob and his wife, Sandra, also served together as activity committee chairs where they organized functions and activities for their church and community. Dad has always been supportive of his wife in her callings and assignments for their church. Bob and Sandy have had the opportunity to witness some of their children and grandchildren serve missions and serve in many other church assignments. His family knows he loved the Savior, Jesus Christ, by the way he lived his life and loved his family. His greatest joy has always been his family, especially his loving bride of 45 years. He coached his children in soccer, baseball, and softball. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren in all their sporting and extracurricular activities. Dad was passionate about serving others, working hard and fly-fishing. He loved driving his motorhome and visiting his family and friends around the country. We love and miss you Dad. Robert is survived by his wife, Sandra; Children: Jodi, Michael and Gina Phelps, Mylinda and Clay Ellis, Ryan and Joy Phelps, Darren and Molly Phelps, Robert and Kristin Phelps, Andrea and Rodney Gouff, and Jennifer and Cameron Cragun. Thirty Grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Sister Joan and Dave Rich, along with his nieces and nephews.
