Roberta Swenson Fletcher returned to live with her Father in Heaven early in the morning on March 29th surrounded by her beloved boys.
Roberta was raised in the Liberty Park area of Salt Lake City with her 5 siblings. She loved to spend her early days at the park, playing tennis, swimming in the summer, and ice skating in the winter. She attended Liberty Elementary School, Lincoln Jr High and graduated from South High School in 1963. Roberta had many fond memories of her time at South High, where she participated in many school events and her fair share of shenanigans. These adventures created friendships that lasted a lifetime. During her high school years, at the age of 16, she was crowned as Santa Lucia, during the Festival of Lights by the Swedish Heritage Society of Utah, which she loved to recount to her kids and grandchildren.
After high school, Roberta took classes at the University of Utah and worked at the Paris Company in downtown Salt Lake. She was known to do some modeling as well. Her beauty and charm captured the heart of her soul mate of 54 years, Mike Fletcher. Several years later, they welcomed two blond haired boys, Jamie and Josh. Roberta cherished being a mother and grandmother and excelled at each.
Nothing made her happier than being surrounded by family and making sure everyone was well fed and happy.
Roberta was so loving and kind to all those with whom she came in contact. She would light up the room whenever she entered with her gorgeous smile and an infectious laugh, followed by her signature snort, if you were lucky. However, once she stepped onto the tennis court, she was a fierce competitor. Roberta competed on many tennis teams at a very high level. Her team won state and sectionals many times and even went to nationals. Tennis provided her with a community of friends that loved and cared for one another throughout life. Roberta also enjoyed cooking and baking for friends and family, as well as entertaining. She especially enjoyed baking cookies with her grandchildren.
Roberta spent hundreds of hours serving others and planning events in her church callings. She organized more luncheons and dinners than most full-time chefs and professional event planners!
Her smile, affection and acts of kindness will be missed, but we know she will be watching over all of us from above.
Roberta is survived by her children, Jamie (Angela) and Josh (Becky); six grandchildren, Cody, Cassidy, Cooper, Cydney, Maggie and Ben; three siblings, Sondra (Michael), Roger (Kathy), and Gary.
We wish to express our gratitude to Canyon Hospice for the love and care they provided to Roberta over the last year and half.
A funeral service will be held April 8th at 12:00 PM at the Big Cottonwood 4th Ward located at 5565 S Neighbor Lane, Holladay, UT 84117. A visitation will take place just prior to the service from 10:30-11:45 AM.
