Rudolf Trater, age 90, of Pueblo, CO and more recently Oakley, Utah, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 19, 2025. He was born in Yugoslavia (now Slovenia) in 1935. In 1957, Rudolf made the brave decision to immigrate to the United States, seeking a new life. He settled in Pueblo and began building his American life, one defined by his entrepreneurial spirit, determination and grit. Starting as a millwright at the CF&I Steel Mill and opening a tailor shop, he went on to own several successful businesses before reluctantly retiring at 85.
Rudolf enjoyed road trips, fishing and camping with his family. His favorite pastimes included gardening and home maintenance. He was known for his ability to persevere through harrowing situations and always come out on the other side with a smile and a laugh.
In addition to his business and family, Rudolf found joy spending time with friends in the mountains, working with his tractor, cutting wood, dancing polkas and playing Happy Birthday on his accordion.
Rudolf is survived by his children Paula Trater and Allen Trater; his grandchildren, Carter and Jackson Dean. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Mina Trater, his second wife Karolina Trater, and his son Rudy Trater Jr.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. He will be missed by all who knew him.
