Listen to Obituary

Showyen Liu (Showyen Bell, Cheyenne Liu) born 11/20/1967 in Taichung, Taiwan. Passed away 02/15/2026 in Sandy, Utah. Showyen succumbed to her brief, brutal battle with stage IV breast cancer—having been diagnosed just 6 weeks prior.

Showyen graduated from Layton High School in 1986, where she was the Drill Mistress (choreographer) for the Lancelle drill team. She attended Weber State College, where she became a member of the Chantonelle drill team. She ultimately graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in accounting.

Showyen began her professional career as an accountant with Price Waterhouse in Philadelphia, where she quickly distinguished herself through her precision and integrity. In the years that followed, she lived abroad, married and began a family. Upon returning to the United States, she continued her work in accounting as a cost accountant for Big D Construction. She later went on to serve as a Controller at Staker Parsons with dedication and pride for the past 15 years. In addition, she was also the Chief Financial Officer of Gan Jing World. Showyen was deeply respected for her discipline, intelligence, and unwavering work ethic. She approached her profession with the same determination, grace, and strength that defined every aspect of her life—leaving a lasting impression on colleagues and all who had the privilege of working alongside her.

Family and friends would describe her as reserved yet warm, diligent, beautiful, capable, graceful, dedicated, and compassionate. Showyen possessed an innate ability to see the good in others. She carried herself with class and composure, guided by strong moral conviction and an unwavering sense of responsibility. Her laughter—bright and radiant—was a beautiful contrast to her calm and steady presence. She was cultured, with a deep appreciation for art and architecture. She loved to travel, especially throughout Europe, embracing the history and beauty of each place she visited. At home, Showyen found joy in bringing people together. She loved hosting family parties and was an exceptional cook, renowned for her handmade dumplings and comforting omelets that have become cherished traditions around the table.

Above all, Showyen was a devoted and selfless mother. She sacrificed tirelessly to provide opportunity and stability for her two sons, supporting them wholeheartedly in their numerous pursuits—from music to sports to traveling for their international judo tournaments. Every decision she made, every hardship she endured, was with their future in mind. She was deeply proud of the life she built, and of who her sons have become.

Deeply committed to her spiritual path as a practitioner of Falun Dafa/Falun Gong, Showyen lived by principles of discipline, virtue, and inner strength that shaped both her personal and professional life. Her work as Chief Financial Officer of Gan Jing World reflected these values, including supporting the mission of Shen Yun Performing Arts.

Her legacy is one of resilience, sacrifice, and unwavering love. She will be deeply missed, but her strength and legacy lives on in the family she devoted her life to.

She is survived by her sons, Tyler and William Chen; spouse, David Thurston; mother, Hsi Lin Bell; sisters, Mon Hsian Liu and Jacqueline Bell; brother Johnnie (Christy) Bell; nephews, Thomas Cushing, Bowden Angeli, Christian and Gabriel Kenworthy; nieces, Megan Angeli, Mailee and Miya Bell.
