Sr. David Maxwell Pierce

David Maxwell Pierce, Sr. PhD, age 82, of Sandy, Utah, died Thursday, April 12, 2007 in his home. Dr. Pierce was born November 1, 1924 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of Delbert Aubrey Pierce and Mary Isobelle Maxwell Pierce. He graduated from East High School in Sioux City, Iowa and enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942, serving with honor and distinction in World War II, the Korean War, in MATS Communications during the Viet Nam War and many other assignments. Dr, Pierce retired from the Air Force as a Chief Master Sergeant in the Strategic Air Command in 1963. He earned his Doctorate in Psychology from the University of Iowa in 1973. He was honored with membership in Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society of North America, in 1975. He taught psychology and was the campus psychologist at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa from 1967 to1978. He was the Chief Administrator of the State Hospital in Evanston, Wyoming. After studying forensic psychology at the USC College of Medicine Institute of Psychology and Law, he entered private practice in neuropsychology and forensic psychology in the Los Angeles, California area. In 1993 he retired and moved to Sandy, Utah, where he enjoyed skiing, genealogy and the arts. He married Patricia Grove and was later divorced. He married Florence Olson and was later divorced. He married Bonnie Lockaby and was later divorced. . He is survived by his children: Cynthia (Daniel) Svendsen of Cloquet, Minnesota; Valerie Hayes of Iowa City, Iowa; David Pierce, Jr. of Santa Monica, California; Douglas Pierce of Holladay, Utah and James Pierce of Holladay, Utah, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Marilyn (Kenneth) Lyon of Sioux City, Iowa and a brother, Robert (Elsa) Pierce of Mission Viejo, California. . He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Thomas Pierce.
The family wishes that memorials be sent to the Hill Air Force Base Museum, Hill Air Force Base, Salt Lake City, Utah.
