Fun Facts About Easy (Because She Wouldn’t Want It Any Other Way)
Easy (Susan) Conard wrapped up her earthly adventure on Sunday, November 9, 2025, in Layton, Utah — after giving cancer a run for its money. She is survived by her husband and partner-in-everything, Bruce Conard, her children Katy, David, Ben, and Heather (with Dan Hall), her grandkids Dylan, Dominic, James, and Logan, and more family and friends than could possibly fit in one room — or one obituary.
Born Susan Kay Herrin on February 21, 1956, in Van Nuys, California, to Cal and Barbara Herrin, she was the fourth of five kids. Her nickname “Easy” began thanks to her sister Lark, who, as a toddler, enthusiastically “patted” baby Susan until their parents would plead, “Easy does it!” Lark took that advice so literally that “Easy” stuck for life — and truly, it fit her.
Easy grew up surrounded by sunshine, siblings, animals, and a good dose of adventure. There were horses (including her beloved Dixie), swimming pools, and a dog named Jethro. The Herrins camped at Kings Canyon and Yosemite, where Easy learned that s’mores taste better after a little dirt. At 14, the family moved to Ashland, Oregon, where Easy collected friends, memories, and, on one occasion, a broken leg (don’t ask the horse).
She loved animals fiercely — from her St. Bernard Jenny Bear to the many Labradors she raised later in life. Her affection for dogs was matched only by her determination; she once spotted raccoons on the porch and fired her .22 through the screen door to “encourage” them to move along. (The raccoons fled. The screen did not survive.)
Easy’s sense of humor was legendary. She once spent Christmas filming her sisters like a one-woman reality show, cruised around town in masks just to make people laugh, and scared off at least one poor boy who came to pick up her sister for a date. But beneath the mischief was a heart that loved deeply and gave freely.
In 1978, she began working for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, later serving a mission in Manchester, England. Her faith anchored her, guided her, and inspired everyone around her. She spent years typesetting books for Deseret Book — a dream job for a woman who loved both words and quiet moments of reflection (and who liked knowing how every story ended before anyone else).
She married Bruce in the Salt Lake Temple on April 24, 1981. Together they raised three wonderful kids, lived in several states, and built a life full of laughter, love, and an impressive collection of Labrador fur on every piece of furniture.
Easy was the best kind of person — one who laughed easily, loved deeply, and lived honestly. She faced pain and hardship with faith and humor, always managing to make everyone else feel better, even when she was struggling herself.
Her family and friends will miss her voice, her hugs, her sense of humor, and the way she could turn any ordinary day into a story worth retelling. But we take comfort knowing she’s now surrounded by all her favorite dogs, somewhere peaceful — where the raccoons behave, the books are good, and she can finally rest easy.
She is now reunited with her Mom and Dad, siblings Kelly and Mark, Granny, and many other relatives who surely greeted her with open arms — and maybe a few dogs wagging their tails, too.
