On the morning of December 24, 2012, our beautiful mother and grandmother made a final wide-eyed gaze upwards, and then peacefully closed her eyes and joined many loved ones calling her home. She had fought a good fight, battling multiple infirmities, and is free at last. Sylvia had spent her life serving her family. She was well acquainted with adversity, overcoming tremendous challenges, and sacrificing greatly for those she loved. As a young mother Sylvia inspired creativity and individuality, and later encouraged the successes of her beloved grandchildren. All those who knew her adored her. She always had a kind word to share, and could find the positive in every circumstance. She touched the lives of many through her generosity, understanding and unconditional love. She will be missed immensely! Sylvia is survived by her sons Cory (Karen) Hansen, Roger Hansen, Layne Hansen, and her daughters Michele (Tim) Timmerman and Sharon (Erik) Hansen, 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, as well as by her sister-in-law Sandra Smith, brother Paul (Suzette) Smith, and many more beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and family members, than can be listed. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin George Smith and Mary Louise "Lou" Kelson, her brother Richard "Dick" Smith, and her sister Judy James. A viewing will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012, at the LDS Chapel on 4350 South 1100 East, Salt Lake City, Utah, from 9:30 - 10:30 AM. The funeral service will then be held at 11:00 AM, and a 1:00 PM graveside service will be given at the Elysian Burial Gardens on 1075 East 4580 South, Salt Lake City, Utah.
